Character Concept: From 2D to 3D
And so there is life! Was a bit rusty when I started off modelling earlier this afternoon. Felt like I didn't know what I was doing. Ended up starting the model over a couple times but eventually got my modelling mind back. So far so good. My references aren't aligned 100%, but at least I can power on still. The head is quite round and although I like it, I want his forehead to have more definition. There is still tonnes of tweaking needed but as a basis, I am happy. I will hopefully have this model completed by the end of this week.

Character concept - Orthographic View
So I've drawn up the character concept into Front and Side views now so that I can get started on his modelling. Want to see how he looks in 3D and work on his shape further to really get a good silhouette and ensure that he looks ok under some lighting. As I model him I reckon a lot of the proportions may begin to differ slightly as these are only a guide.

Tickles at noon
Another quick Photoshop tutorial. Added a couple extra bits to muck around with. Considering it is a simple little tutorial, I find myself thinking about using the tools in different ways and end up learning a great deal from it.

Penguin Suit
Another result from quick tutorial for creating a 3D room and adding a title. I was wondering why it was taking so long to do a RAM preview, then realised that the image I used set the comp settings to 2K.

Text Integration - AE
Another Videocopilot tutorial done. This time it was integrating 3D shadows into a picture. The background is a photo I took in Corfu a couple years ago. Although a simple tutorial, I haven't used the 3D option in After Effects before so it was a nice and quick introduction.
Cheeseburger Hat
Blurred Title Effect in After Effects using a Videocopilot tutorial. Had to lower the quality in order to upload so apologies.
My name in lights
I want to learn as much as I can from tutorials, so once I know various tricks and tips, I can apply them in different ways. Whether it be Photoshop, After Effects or Illustrator. I came across a tutorial today that I thought I would try out and already have learnt a few Photoshop tips that I didn't before.
This was the final result.
Character Concept Continued...
So tried to do a bit more refinement on the main character concept. Feedback I got from the last one was that he needed to look a bit older, so I've tried to add that in by adding some 'smile lines', slight bags under the eyes and more angular features to the face, such as chin line and ear. I've also taken a bit of weight away from the belly.

Year 4 - Main Project (Character Concepts)
So my main project idea has been approved! I have begun to draw out some concepts for my main character and some story boarding. I am trying to find a nice mix of stylized character design, maintaining a good silhouette and personality. Still got a little way to go but here is part of my journey so far...
I am really liking this design. I think it holds alot of the qualities I am going after and can really picture him animated. Still requires a fair bit of tweaking but I think I'm onto something atleast.

I've got a jar of dirt!
So I kind of failed uploading the finished product to the blog... but I did finish it well over a week ago! But here it is, Jack Sparrow in all his glory. The name of this piece is 'I've got a jar of dirt'. Purely because that remix has embedded itself in my brain. Really glad to have gotten back into painting at least. Loved seeing it come to life and adding in the detail. Who knows what my next project will be!

Jack Sparrow WIP - #3
New update of Mr Sparrow. Definitely coming along. Hands didn't come out as bad as they could have done but there is still so much I want to tweak about them. Only problem is when I make a slight change the entire hand looks dis formed. Ah well. It's coming along nicely as a whole... further updates coming soon!

Jack Sparrow WIP - #2
Here is the second WIP for the Jack Sparrow painting. So far so good I think. Always struggle with hands though so will need to do alot of refining on that one. Aim is to have this done by Tuesday/Wednesday.
Question is... why is the rum gone?

New Painting - WIP
It's been so long since I've done an acrylic painting and I've been meaning to start a new one for ages... and by ages I mean nearly 3 years. I finally decided to sit down and begin and I am so glad I did. I have missed painting considerably and is definitely something I will be doing alot more with any free time that I do have. Many ideas in the pipeline!
Here's a shot so far of the beauty himself... Jack Spaaarrraah' (In a Davy Jones accent).
